Report: Everton now targeting £22m Chelsea winger as Jack Grealish replacement

Everton fans may have seen the last of Jack Grealish on Merseyside.

David Moyes confirmed in his press conference on Friday that the Everton No.18 is “probably” going to need an operation on his broken foot, and is unlikely to feature again this season.

It means the Toffees need a replacement on the left flank, and The Athletic now believe The Friedkin Group are attempting to sign Tyrique George on loan from Chelsea.

If Tyler Dibling cost £40m, how much would Everton have to pay for George? 😳

Everton register Tyrique George interest after losing Jack Grealish

It has now been revealed that Everton want the 19-year-old to replace Grealish.

The Athletic say the Toffees are expecting to face fierce competition for George given the fact he is a precocious talent, but there is encouragement in the fact Chelsea are now open to sanctioning a loan deal for the teenager.

It is said that Chelsea were only interested in a permanent sale previously – having come close to selling the England U21 international to Fulham in a £22m deal on deadline day back in September – but are now happy to loan the forward out.

George has made just five starts for Chelsea this season, two of which came in the UEFA Champions League with the other three coming in the Carabao Cup. In those five games, the Everton target has impressively returned three goals and one assist.

The Friedkin Group must try to negotiate £22m purchase option for Tyrique George

Chelsea have set a clear valuation on George – who Everton first considered in December – by accepting a £22m bid from Fulham last summer before the deal collapsed.

Considering little has happened since then for Chelsea to justify demanding more, it is imperative that Everton agree an option to buy the Londoner for £22m in the event of any loan.

Should The Friedkin Group only manage to negotiate a ‘dry loan’ – meaning there is no option or obligation to buy – then Everton risk being priced out of a permanent deal if George impresses on Merseyside.

Just imagine how much Chelsea would end up charging for a 19-year-old Englishman if he delivers five impressive months in the Premier League. It would surely surpass the £50m mark, at least.

What should be Everton’s top priority before the deadline on Monday? 😬

Therefore, it is vital that Everton shake hands on a fixed fee before diving into a loan, just to ensure a permanent deal would be realistic this summer if he ends up becoming a fan favourite at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
