Liverpool boss Arne Slot provides injury update
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has provided an injury update ahead of his side's clash against Newcastle United. The two sides will face off at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday, January 31.
The Reds hammered Qarabag 6-0 at home in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, January 28. However, Jeremie Frimpong had to be subbed off in the fourth minute due to an injury. Providing an update on his injury, Slot said in his pre-match press conference (h/t Mirror):
"He will definitely not be in the squad for tomorrow. He's out for a few weeks, but not as bad as we thought he would be out. So something positive from something not so positive."
Ibrahima Konate missed the last three games for Liverpool due to the death of his father. However, he will be available for the Newcastle clash, and so will be Curtis Jones, as Slot said:
"Ibou trained with us yesterday, trains with us today and will be in the squad tomorrow. Curtis is again available. He was sick as I said, but he is available."
The Dutch head coach also provided an update on Joe Gomez, saying:
"Joe [Gomez] will not be available, but that doesn't have to take much longer anymore. But he will not be available for the weekend."
Gomez suffered a hip injury in Liverpool's 3-2 defeat against Bournemouth in the Premier League on January 24.
Arne Slot provides injury update on Alexander Isak ahead of Liverpool's clash against Newcastle
Alexander Isak suffered a broken foot in Liverpool's 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on December 20. He scored the winning goal, but Micky van de Ven accidentally caught him while making a tackle, leading to the injury.
Providing an update on the Swedish striker, Arne Slot said:
"He's not even on the pitch yet. He's just out of his walker. That tells you that he's not on the pitch yet and are not expecting him out on the pitch today or tomorrow. In terms of his recovery work, it's going to take a while, as we knew."
Slot also opened up about youngster Jayden Danns' injury, saying:
"He'd have definitely been in the squad but unfortunately, he isn't. We don't expect him back today or tomorrow as well."
Liverpool are sixth in the Premier League standings, 14 points behind leaders Arsenal and one point behind fifth-placed Chelsea. They are winless in their last five Premier League games, with four draws and one defeat.
