Bayern Turn Their Attention To Chelsea Star After Withdrawing From Jacquet Transfer Battle

Bayern Munich are “keeping track of” Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.

Writing on his personal website, the journalist claimed that the Bundesliga champions had considered moving for the 19-year-old last summer and they are still interested in signing him now:

“Bayern Munich are keeping track of Josh Acheampong. The Chelsea centre-back fits the kind of profile the Bavarians are looking for. He’s 19 years old, he’s not so expensive, and has genuine quality for the future. Of course, Bayern are still planning with Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan in the defence. So, they don’t want to bring someone in who’s looking to immediately start in the backline.”

“That’s why players like Acheampong are interesting for FC Bayern. I heard that last summer Bayern also showed interest in the teenager, but, at the moment, they have to wait to see what Upamecano decides to do [on signing a new contract].”

Bayern are “not” pursuing Jacquet

Falk has also provided an update on the German team’s interest in Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet.

Fabrizio Romano has said that both Bayern and Liverpool are competing with Chelsea for the 20-year-old’s signature, but Falk claims they Vincent Kompany’s side “not” involved in negotiations. He feels there is a “pretty good chance” that the defender will end up moving to Stamford Bridge.

Would Acheampong stay at Chelsea if Jacquet arrives?

The teenager has been deployed at right-back but his preference is believed to be centre-half, so the arrival of new player of a similar age could block his pathway to the first team.

It does look like Bayern may look to pounce for Acheampong at the end of the season if it becomes clear that he won’t be getting many minutes for the Blues in his favoured position.
