Liverpool Tipped To Bring Former Academy Player Back To Anfield Amid Man City Transfer Exit

Liverpool have been tipped to bring one of their former academy players back to Anfield following Oscar Bobb’s move from Man City to Fulham.

The Reds are yet to make a signing in the January transfer window, and with the deadline approaching, Arne Slot will hope the club can help strengthen his squad before Monday night.

It is understood that they are in the race for Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, but Chelsea are currently the front-runners, so it could be a difficult deal to get across the line, before the deadline next week.

Liverpool are playing against Newcastle on Saturday night, hoping to climb back into the top four of the Premier League table. Slot will have to rely on star player Mo Salah, but he will need replacing in the summer.

Liverpool tipped to sign Harry Wilson

In one of the bigger deals of the January window, Man City sold winger Oscar Bobb to Fulham, who wanted to bring in a winger in case star player Harry Wilson leaves in the summer. Wilson is out of contract, and at the moment, there is no indication that he will sign an extension at Craven Cottage.

Liverpool need a right-winger to become Salah’s replacement, and simply for depth, so former Premier League striker Jay Bothroyd believes that the Reds could go after Wilson, when he becomes a free agent in the summer.

He said on Sky Sports News: “I’m talking about Liverpool. I’m thinking Liverpool are going to want to sign him [Wilson] . They’ve got Salah, they’ve got no other natural right-wingers. They’ve got Frimpong that plays right-wing sometimes, they’ve got Szoboszlai that plays right-wing, they’ve got Wirtz that’s played in there. They haven’t got a natural right winger.

“He [Wilson] fits the bill perfectly. He’s left footed, technical, he’s scored some fantastic goals this season, he works really hard. There’s no way he’s at Fulham next year.”

Wilson was formerly in the Liverpool academy going on several loan moves to Hull City, Derby County, Bournemouth and Cardiff City, before he left permanently in 2021 to join Fulham for a fee of £12m. He has since made 172 appearances for the Cottagers, scoring 34 goals, and providing 43 assists.
