Patrick Vieira Claims Man City Now Have A“Top Defender For The Next 10 Years”

**Patrick Vieira is confident that new Man City signing Marc Guehi will have a long and successful career at the Etihad.**

The former City and Arsenal midfielder signed him from Chelsea when he was Crystal Palace manager back in the summer of 2021. Asked about the player’s qualities, Vieira said he believes Guehi will be a stalwart at the back for the Cityzens over the next decade:

“I think City have signed a top defender for the next 10 years. And they have signed a really good person as well, and I know how important it is for City not just to sign a good player, but a good human being, a good person and someone who is really professional. And I think Marc has all these qualities.”

“I think Marc is a dream player for a manager because you can interact with him, you can exchange ideas, and you can have a proper conversation, that can be a tactical side, or it can be something away from football. He is always concentrated, he’s always focussed, and he wants to improve himself, and he wants to challenge himself. And I think this is the quality that managers love about players.”

“For Mark himself, I think it will be really hard to find a better place than Manchester City. I think he’s going to be surrounded by top international players, top defenders, and I think he will raise his quality of game and that will improve him as a player as well. And, of course, having the chance to work with one of the most successful managers ever, I think everything is there for him to be a top, top player in the years coming. I think it would be difficult to find a better club than Man City for Mark. So when I saw the news, I was quite really happy for him, because I think he deserved to be in a place like that, so he can express his talent and his quality.”

Guehi has had a good start to life at the Etihad

------------------------------------------------

Since securing his services from Palace earlier this month, the 25-year-old helped keep a clean sheet on his debut against Wolves last weekend.

Guehi was ineligible to face Galatasaray on Wednesday night, but he will be in contention when **[Pep Guardiola](https://mancitynews.com/man-city-injury-news-jeremy-doku/)**‘s side travel to play Tottenham on Sunday.

It could well be a pivotal match in the title race, with the gap between City and Arsenal having closed to four points.

Man City have “added strength”

------------------------------

Speaking in place of Guardiola at the pre-match press conference, assistant coach Pep Lijnders was very positive about the club’s activity in the transfer market this month:

“I think we did excellent business with Antoine, with Marc, Oscar leaving, of course, but I think we added strength. You always search for someone to improve your first XI. If you can find these players and it’s not easy for Manchester City but if you get players to improve your first XI you do good business and that’s what we tried to do and I think we succeeded.”

Both Vieira and Lijnders seem to agree that Guehi will be a great addition, and for £20m, it looks like City have got themselves a bargain.
