There are plenty of professional athletes who have their eyes on playing senior tour golf when they retire. Only one that we know of, however, has actually made a bet on it happening.
Remember Bob Sura? This guy used to cook at Florida State and he remains the school's all-time leading scorer. He also teamed up with Sam Cassell and Charlie Ward to lead the Seminoles to an Elite 8 appearance in 1993 before being a first-round NBA pick and playing over a decade in the league with five different teams. Nice player.
Well, apparently, Bob is a big golfer now (Who isn't?) and he appeared on this week's episode of Golf's Subpar podcast to discuss his career and what he's been up to. It was during this appearance that Bob revealed he made a bet that he'd qualify for a PGA Tour Champions event. And a BIG bet at that. Here's how he tells the story:
Talk about putting your money where your mouth is. A 10K bet on yourself. That could wind up turning into $3 MILLION. And Sura is a professional poker player now, so he knows a little something about odds.
But as the guys allude to in the clip, this seems like a total longshot. For one thing, Bob Sura is 53. For another, he's currently listed with a 7.6 handicap index at The Club at Carlton Woods outside of Houston.
As Sura says in the clip, he has until he's 65 to make this happen. So, he better get moving.
"Hey, I'm a 6-3 white guy from Pennsylvania that made the NBA on work ethic," Sura says in the clip. "You never know."
True, but once again, the odds are stacked against you. Anyway, good luck, Bob.
