With the January transfer window deadline fast approaching on Monday, February 2nd at 11pm, Liverpool appear set to keep their hands firmly in their pockets despite mounting injury concerns across the squad. Arne Slot maintained his pragmatic stance on the winter marke:

“If we think we’ve addressed a player that can help us and we think it’s possible, then we would do so,” the Dutchman told reporters at his pre-Newcastle press conference. The underlying message seems unmistakable – Liverpool’s recruitment team have assessed what’s available and concluded there are no players meeting the club’s high standards worth pursuing in the limited time remaining.

While incomings remain highly unlikely, exits could still materialize before Monday’s deadline. Liverpool academy prospect Lewis Koumas is on the verge of sealing a loan move to Championship promotion-chasers Hull City, with the 20-year-old Welsh international having already undergone a medical at the MKM Stadium.

Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic has expressed his optimism about completing the deal, revealing the Tigers made Koumas their top target back in the summer before he opted for Birmingham City instead. “I aimed to secure Koumas during the summer; he was my primary choice, but unfortunately, he opted for Birmingham,” Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside.

“He possesses significant potential as a young talent, boasting considerable experience in this league for his age—having played 42 matches for Stoke last season and this current season at Birmingham.”

BBC add that “Jakirovic is hopeful of completing the loan signings of midfielders Lewis Koumas from Liverpool and Manchester United’s Toby Collyer” and that the Tigers boss “thinks he could even be involved in Saturday’s match at Blackburn Rovers”.

The move represents a fresh start for Koumas, whose Birmingham loan spell was cut short after just 25 appearances and one goal in all competitions. Liverpool recalled the forward last week and moved quickly to secure a more suitable development pathway, with Hull—currently sitting fourth in the Championship table and chasing automatic promotion – identified as the ideal destination.
