Liverpool have asked Inter Milan for information on Denzel Dumfries following Jeremie Frimpong’s injury this week.
That’s according to Gianluca di Marzio. The journalist reports that Liverpool have made contact with Inter Milan over the Dutch full-back.
Frimpong limped out of Liverpool’s win over Qarabag in the Champions League this week. He appeared to have suffered a hamstring injury, which has now been confirmed by Arne Slot. The defender is expected to miss a few weeks with the problem.
That’s left Liverpool in a bind as they now have no fit, recognised right-backs in the squad. Conor Bradley has already been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a significant knee injury. Joe Gomes, who is a regular back up option in the position, is also out with a recent knock.
That has, apparently, seen Liverpool look to the transfer market. According to Di Marzio, they’ve asked Inter Milan for conditions about Dumfries. The journalist does not mention the response to that as yet.
But the interest from Liverpool comes amid reports in Italy about Dumfries future. Inter are currently pushing to sign Brooke Norton-Cuffy from Genoa. He’s seen as the long-term replacement for Dumfries.
The bid for him has been made because of Everton’s interest in the full-back. A report today also stated that there were rumours of a bid coming in for Dumfries. Now Di Marzio reports on the call from Liverpool.
It is worth noting, though, that Dumfries has been out since November with an ankle injury. That required surgery and he is yet to return. Liverpool bidding for him to replace their other injured Dutch right-back would, then, be strange to say the least.
