Liverpool have made contact over a deal to sign Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries after Jeremie Frimpong's latest injury, according to Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Reds have had a mixed campaign so far, with Arne Slot's job under intense scrutiny with the team sitting sixth in the Premier League table despite being the reigning champions, although they have qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League.
The team have consistently been dealing with injury issues throughout the campaign, and after Frimpong suffered a new hamstring injury during the win over Qarabag in midweek, the club are looking to make a late move in the transfer market.
Inter's Denzel Dumfries
Dumfries, who has been described as 'world-class', has been a regular at Inter Milan for several years as a wing-back, and has emerged as one of the best attacking full-backs in Europe.
His profile is very similar to that of Frimpong, with the two competing for the position at international level for the Netherlands, and those similarities have seen Liverpool make their move to bring the 29-year-old to Anfield ahead of next Monday's transfer deadline.
According to Sky Italia, Liverpool made contact with the Serie A giants to gather information on what a deal would entail. Any deal would be dependent on a final diagnosis of Frimpong's injury, with some suggestions he could miss several weeks, while it's unclear if Inter would be willing to let Dumfries leave this close to the deadline.
However, Inter are keen on Genoa star Brooke Norton-Cuffey who could play in that position, and his arrival could open the door for Dumfries to make the move to the Premier League.

Right-back was always expected to be a slight issue this season after Trent Alexander-Arnold left for Real Madrid last summer. Frimpong was brought in as the natural replacement, while Conor Bradley was also expected to compete for the position.
However, with Bradley likely to miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury, and Frimpong now set for a spell on the sidelines, Slot is very limited on options in that position.
Joe Gomez can play there but he has also suffered an injury recently, and Slot has publicly stated that he isn't convinced by Calvin Ramsay. That only leaves Dominik Szoboszlai to play at right-back, and while he is more than capable, he has arguably been Liverpool's player of the season in midfield.
A new signing is necessary to keep Liverpool's season alive, and Dumfries would arguably be the perfect addition.
