Thomas Frank provides 20-word injury update on Micky van de Ven ahead of crunch Man City clash

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven missed the Eintracht Frankfurt win with a minor issue.

Thomas Frank got some breathing space after Tottenham Hotspur beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday night. He went into the fixture under huge pressure, but it was eased for the time being after his side comfortably prevailed over Eintracht Frankfurt and secured a Champions League last-16 berth, after finishing an impressive fourth in the league phase.

Spurs have not got going in the Premier League, failing to win in their last five fixtures. They are winless in the Premier League in 2026 and drew 1-1 with Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend. Thomas Frank and Co. are up against Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with fans not having to wait long to see their team in action in the top flight.

After a productive midweek in the Champions League, Tottenham will be raring to build on the Frankfurt result by beating Manchester City. Perhaps the only downside of the Frankfurt victory was the absence of Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven, who were not named in the travelling squad due to injury problems.

Spurs have already confirmed that Pedro Porro is facing a month on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, having come off at half-time in the 2-2 draw with Burnley. Meanwhile, Micky van de Ven missed out on the flight to Germany due to a ‘minor’ issue.

Thomas Frank provides the latest injury update on Micky van de Ven

Micky van de Ven has been Tottenham’s standout player in an otherwise disappointing campaign. Asked whether the centre-back could feature against Manchester City at the weekend, the Spurs boss said in his press conference (h/t Football London):

“Micky is a minor one. It will be touch-and-go. He was on the pitch yesterday and today, but he’s touch-and-go.”

Frank’s biggest concern going into the Man City fixture is not the opposition but availability. Mohammed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall, Richarlison and Ben Davies have entered the treatment room in the last few weeks. Porro was the latest casualty, but fans will now be anxious over Van de Ven’s availability.

Even though Frank mentioned the Netherlands defender is touch-and-go for the game, it leaves Tottenham supporters in a dilemma because of how the club’s medical department have been handling the player’s injuries in recent years.

Given that the Wormer-born talent has been the team’s best player this season, his unavailability for the City game would be a body blow for Frank. But by playing a half-fit Van de Ven at the weekend, Frank cannot afford to lose him for a significant period on the sidelines. That said, the Dane and his coaching staff must not risk Van den Ven vs. Man City if he is not 100 per cent fit.
