Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry discussed his team’s chances of acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo, one of the best players in the NBA. Antetokounmpo is reportedly ready for a new start, either at the trade deadline or in the offseason. Either way, the Warriors have been mentioned as one of the leading candidates to land the two-time NBA MVP.
Amid a 27-22 season (eighth in the Western Conference standings), the Warriors lost Jimmy Butler to a season-ending injury. They still have intriguing young pieces to trade away, but the team doesn’t want to mortgage its future.

Talking with Nick Friedell of The Athletic, Curry addressed the possibility of adding Giannis Antetokounmpo to the roster and how the team might go about it.
“We all know who’s on the block, apparently, according to today, does that mean that mortgaging the future for somebody like that wouldn’t be a conversation every team is having?” Curry said. “Of course. We’re in that boat. Does it make sense or not? I’m not sure yet because I don’t know all the details, but you just have to have a level of reasonability on what’s a smart move. Like if I’m a GM I’m thinking in that way. Everybody has their input and then there’s a decision that’s made that kind of makes sense amongst everybody.”
Warriors made first step to land Giannis Antetokounmpo
Even before Shams Charania dropped the bombshell report on Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Golden State Warriors reached out to the Milwaukee Bucks to express their interest in the 2021 NBA champion.

“League sources told ESPN that the Warriors have contacted the Bucks in the past week and expressed their firm interest in Antetokounmpo and their willingness to put a substantial offer on the table regardless of his calf strain and undetermined return timetable,” Anthony Slater wrote.
Other teams, such as the Miami Heat and the Minnesota Timberwolves, are in the mix for Antetokounmpo. More franchises, such as the Houston Rockets or the New York Knick,s could have something to say about it, too.
