Liverpool ideal Jeremie Frimpong replacement could be ‘fascinating’ gem they wanted to succeed…

Liverpool are currently feeing the impact of injuries to their defence as they are without Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley

Liverpool do not have long to complete any late signings they might be drawn to during the winter transfer window.

The latest setback to Jeremie Frimpong was a serious blow for Liverpool. They now have just five fit senior defenders to fill all positions across the backline.

Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are out for the season and Frimpong is expected to be absent ‘for a few weeks’. Joe Gomez has also recently been hit with an injury setback, which puts extra pressure on Liverpool as he can play in any defensive position.

Who Liverpool should target as Jeremie Frimpong replacement

It’s clear Liverpool are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements. While Frimpong is out, right-back is a major problem area.

A number of potential transfer targets have been suggested for the Reds to explore, and one player we feel the club should pursue is Amar Dedic of Benfica.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international only moved to his current club last summer but he has previously expressed interest in playing Premier League football, which could be a way in for Liverpool.

Transfermarkt has also identified Dedic as a candidate for the Reds, describing him as a ‘fascinating option’. The 23-year-old can play on both the right and left of the backline, which is a bonus added level of depth in defence.

Liverpool previously shortlisted Amar Dedic to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold

During the Trent Alexander-Arnold exit fiasco, Liverpool had a list of names they were considering to replace him. On that list was, of course, Frimpong but Dedic was also earmarked.

According to CaughtOffside at the time, Liverpool had ‘asked for information’ on Dedic, who was at Red Bull Salzburg at the time. He was described as ‘the most realistic target’, due to the Austrian club’s openness to selling key players to big clubs.

It was this report that claimed Dedic is ‘open’ to moving to the Premier League and testing himself at a higher level.

At 23, the full-back has a long stretch of his career ahead of him. His versatility will make him a valuable asset to Liverpool, especially during troublesome injury situations like this one.

Dedic also enjoys contributing to creative play as much as he does defending. According to WhoScored, the full-back has averaged 1.2 key passes, 1.4 clearances and 1.7 tackles per 90 minutes so far in the Primeira Liga this season.

His presence will also allow Slot to experiment with deploying Frimpong in a more attacking role once he is back from injury, while rotating the the Bosnian international with Bradley.
