A clash between league leaders Arsenal and Leeds United headlines the action at Elland Road this Saturday, as the Gunners look to snap their Premier League slump against Daniel Farke’s improving side. While Arsenal are currently enduring a disappointing three-match winless streak in the top flight, Leeds continue to bolster their survival hopes with each passing week.
Whether it’s the toll of a relentless fixture list, recurring issues resurfacing, or simply opponents raising their game, cracks have begun to show in Arsenal’s title challenge. Last Sunday echoed the events of 2021, as Manchester United’s interim manager masterminded a 3-2 comeback victory—this time at the Emirates—leaving both sides of Manchester celebrating. Despite spectacular goals from Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha, Arsenal’s meager 0.39 Expected Goals from open play highlighted their ongoing struggles in attack, a problem that has persisted for the past 18 months.
With Manchester City and Aston Villa both winning before Arsenal’s defeat, the Gunners now hold just a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League. Despite sharing the best away record in the division, Mikel Arteta’s side have only managed two wins in their last six league games on the road. They did, however, return to winning ways with a 3-2 Champions League victory over Kairat on Wednesday, completing the group stage with a perfect record—though the second half again raised concerns about their attacking sharpness.
Leeds, meanwhile, experienced mixed emotions in their last outing. The travelling fans were jubilant at halftime at Hill Dickinson Stadium, with James Justin’s goal putting them ahead against Everton. Farke’s men, who had previously defeated Derby County and Fulham, were denied a third consecutive win when Thierno Barry equalized for Everton in the closing stages. Still, every point is valuable for 16th-placed Leeds, who now sit six points above the relegation zone, thanks largely to their impressive home form.
Indeed, Leeds have lost just twice at Elland Road in the Premier League this season, are unbeaten in five home matches since a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in November, and have found the net in 10 of their 11 top-flight home games in 2025-26. However, they failed to score in their last home fixture against Arsenal—a 1-0 defeat in October 2022—and the Gunners’ 5-0 rout at the Emirates earlier this season marked their sixth consecutive league victory over Leeds.
