The day both Bents bagged for Blues in win against Preston more than 20 years ago

Today, we throwback to the Division One game between the two sides at Portman Road when Joe Royle's Blues' extended their unbeaten league run to eight matches in January 2003.

The Blues opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Jim Magilton swung in a free-kick from the left and Marcus Bent rose highest to head powerfully home from close range, for his fifth goal of the season.

Then, in the second half, Darren Bent produced a super sub performance as the youngster replaced Pablo Counago just after the hour mark and netted two killer goals against the Lilywhites.

His first came in the 74th minute when Darren Ambrose's corner was flicked on by Hermann Hreidarsson to Bent, who headed beyond Jonathan Gould to make it 2-0.

With four minutes remaining, Bent drilled home his second and Ipswich's third, low into the bottom right-hand corner for his 10th goal of the season.

A month after this game Ipswich entered administration, but Royle turned Town's fortunes around and led his side to seventh in the table, just missing out on the play-off places despite taking over with Town struggling near the relegation zone.

Town XI: Marshall, Wilnis, Holland, Makin, Gaardsoe, Hreidarsson, Wright, Magilton (Ambrose 73'), Miller, Counago (D Bent 67'), M Bent.
