As the winter transfer window draws to a close, Premier League clubs are scrambling to finalise some last-minute deals. Regardless of team targets for the coming months, Arne Slot has indicated Liverpool are pursuing Europe rather than the title at this stage, so there is plenty of incentive for investment this month. "It's never nice to say that a title race is gone because you never know what can happen in football, but there are a lot of clubs in between us and the number one," Slot said.
We've already seen several high-profile deals completed by clubs up and down the Premier League table, some even in the first half of January. Those early multi-million-pound signings include Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City, Conor Gallagher to Tottenham, and Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace, to name but three. This time last year, many clubs were racing against the clock to secure new signings. Liverpool weren't among them, though, amid a feeling that they didn't need any mid-season additions to make sure of the league title.
Supporters of all 20 Premier League clubs will be eagerly awaiting news of that crucial late deal, though some may be more optimistic than others. Here's everything you need to know about this year's transfer deadline day.
When is transfer deadline day?
Traditionally, the January transfer window closes on January 31. However, this year is different, with Premier League clubs given until Monday, February 2, to bring in new players.
Clubs can also sign free agents outside the window if they have space in their 25-man squad. However, this has only happened during a handful of Premier League seasons and only to a handful of desperate clubs.
What are the deadlines for other leagues?
The transfer window also closes on February 2 in France, Germany, Italy and Spain, among other leagues. Some clubs have a bit more time to make purchases, meaning Premier League clubs can continue to sell players to these leagues for a while longer.

Portugal's window shuts on February 3, while Greece, Turkey and Austria have until February 6, and several other European leagues have even longer windows. One to watch is Major League Soccer in the United States, where the window doesn't close until March 27.
What happened on deadline day last year?
Last year saw a flurry of activity at the end of the transfer window for Premier League clubs, although some of the most significant deals were finalised before deadline day itself. The largest in financial terms was Jhon Duran's £71m move from Aston Villa to Al-Nassr on January 31, with Omar Marmoush's £59m transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt to Manchester City sealed just over a week earlier.
Liverpool also sent players out on loan during the winter window last year, with Jayden Danns spending the second half of the season at Sunderland but failing to make an impact due to injury. Neighbours Everton made a late swoop of their own, signing Charly Alcaraz on loan from Flamengo before later making the move permanent.
Which Premier League teams might be busy on deadline day?
Certain clubs have more incentive to be active than others. Liverpool spent heavily over the summer and now must decide whether to open their wallets again after injuries to several players.
We've already witnessed hefty fees paid by clubs further down the league, with West Ham acquiring strikers Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe, as well as loan deals like Facundo Buonanotte's switch to Leeds. There's likely to be more to come on one of the busiest days on the football calendar.
