Chelsea are being linked with a sensational move for one of England’s key players
It is claimed the Blues plan to fork out a staggering £129m to sign the former Borussia Dortmund player, who joined Real Madrid back in 2023. Since his arrival at the La Liga giants, he has scored 44 goals and provided 32 assists in 127 appearances.
At the age of 22, he has already been capped 46 times by England with six goals for the Three Lions.
Fichajes reports the Chelsea board are planning to spend big on the midfielder as they look to become title contenders again after years of major spending that has yet to see the club hit the heights of Premier League and Champions League glory.
The Blues want to see Bellingham join a midfield trio of Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández. Bellingham has come under criticism at times this year with Madrid but Chelsea are said to believe a change of scenery will help him hit his best form again.
Bellingham is said to find a potential return to England ‘extremely appealing’ and Real Madrid could be open to a sale, especially considering the £129m bid would be a Premier League record, surpassing the £125m Liverpool paid to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United last summer.
The 22-year-old started his career with Birmingham City before securing a move to Dortmund. He was strongly linked with Liverpool back in 2023 before heading to Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will play in the Champions League play-offs next month after a dramatic 4-2 loss to Benfica in midweek.
After the game, Bellingham cut a frustrated figure.
“It’s horrible to lose like this, in this manner,” he said. “Running out of words for these games now, we’ll have to review it tomorrow and look at the goals we conceded and things like that but yeah… Not much to say right now, it’s still a bit raw. Don’t know what to think, but I don’t know.
“They won all the duels, ran harder, pressed better, landed on second balls, the basic things that we don’t do well. We have so much talent, and players that can produce magic out of nowhere, but if you don’t do the basic things, you’re going to get punished.”
It is unclear what a move for Bellingham would mean for Cole Palmer. The attacking midfielder has been linked with Manchester United but Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior has been clear that he wants the player to stay put. He is under contract until 2033.
