Arsenal to sack Mikel Arteta if they don't win the Premier League - report

Arsenal have decided that they will sack Mikel Arteta if he does not win the Premier League this season, according to Fichajes.

The Gunners currently sit four points clear at the top of the table but have failed to win any of their last three games after draws against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, as well as a 3-2 defeat at home to Manchester United most recently.

After huge investment in the summer, which saw the club bring in Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cristhian Mosquera, Piero Hincapie, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres, the board has now decided that the manager must win or be sacked.

Arteta Facing Arsenal Sack

Arteta took control of the Arsenal first team back in 2019, lifting the FA Cup during his first campaign with a 2-0 win over Chelsea thanks to two goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, the Gunners have failed to win a trophy since in five full campaigns and now the board have told him that he must win the Premier League title this year or they will look to go in a different direction with their coaching department from next season.

The club have finished as runners-up in the top-flight in each of the last three seasons, and it's believed that the club feel another season without winning the title would suggest the club are going backwards considering the level of investment and time the manager has been given.

Alongside the Premier League, Arsenal finished top of the Champions League league phase with eight wins from eight games, while they are still in the FA Cup, and currently have a 3-2 lead over Chelsea in their Carabao Cup semi-final tie ahead of next week's second leg.

Fans are largely behind Arteta, but there has been some discontent at the team failing to take advantage of their rivals dropping points in recent weeks, and should they fail to win the title then it's possible that could escalate.

Arsenal Board Ultimatum is Fair

While it may seem unfair considering where Arsenal are currently at this season, this stance from the Gunners board is more than fair when looking at the bigger picture.

If Arsenal don't win the title from this point then it will be a terrible indictment of the side, and if the manager can't see it over the line with this squad and with this lead, then he will never be able to.

Should he win, then there is nothing to worry about. But the north London club are now facing a number of cup finals if they want their manager to keep his job.
