Liverpool transfer news as Denzel Dumfries of Inter Milan is linked with a move in the January transfer window.
Liverpool have sounded out a potential move for Denzel Dumfries, reports suggest.
The Reds have a right-back injury crisis, with Jeremie Frimpong joining Conor Bradley on the treatment table. Bradley will not play again this season, having suffered a serious knee injury in a 0-0 draw at Arsenal earlier this month.
And while Frimpong will only be sidelined for weeks with a groin issue sustained in a 6-0 thrashing over Qarabag in the Champions League, he has had two hamstring problems this campaign. It means he will have to be carefully managed when he returns.
Sections of fans would like to see Arne Slot’s utilise the transfer window before it closes on Monday. And it is suggested that they have explored the possibility of signing Dumfries of Inter Milan. The Netherlands international, who can play as a right-back and further forward, is currently recovering from an ankle injury. Dumfries has made 15 appearances this season, scoring three goals, and has a release clause that can be activated in the summer.
According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Inter would want around £21 million to sell Dumfries, who is out of contract at the San Siro in 2028. Schira posted on X: “Liverpool have talked with Denzel #Dumfries’ agents to explore the conditions for a possible signing. #Inter ask €25M to sell the right back, who has changed agent in the last weeks to join Ali Barat’s Agency.”
“But the understanding is Liverpool asked about the player and the injury situation. At the moment, Dumfries is still expected to be out for around 10 or 15 or 20 days, shouldn’t be a long one, this is the expectation.
“So Liverpool got this information, but at the moment they didn’t send any bid and didn’t start a negotiation. My understanding is that Liverpool could only consider this possibility on a loan deal, and Inter don’t want to do a loan deal for Dumfries. So at the moment there is nothing in it, it’s just conversations club-to-club.”
It has also been suggested that Inter have made an enquiry about Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones. The academy product sees his Anfield deal expire in the summer of 2027. Jones has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season. He has recently been linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
“Inter spoke to Liverpool [on Friday] about Curtis Jones,” Romano added. “I can reveal that Tottenham were very aggressive on Curtis Jones at the beginning of the transfer window before signing Conor Gallagher.
“Now Inter ask for Jones – loan with an option to buy for €40 million – paid loan and salary covered. Inter want it but at the moment, no answer yet from Liverpool, they haven’t given a green light to the deal. It’s not an easy one for Inter, for sure, and it’s on Liverpool to decide, they have an emergency situation with players, so it’s on Liverpool.”
