Chelsea and Liverpool learn Jeremy Jacquet decision for Monaco clash - journalist

Chelsea are running out of time to secure the signature of Jeremy Jacquet before the January transfer deadline on Monday.

The Chelsea owners made the decision to chase a centre-back after the loss to Arsenal, and now weeks later, we are no closer to a signing.

Jeremy Jacquet‘s pursuit has turned into a saga.

It’s being reported that Jacquet is 100% down to join Chelsea, despite Liverpool and other clubs registering an interest in signing him.

But the issue is Rennes’ willingness to do a deal so late on, as well as the price tag of around £57 million to sign the defender this month.

Discussion: You’re Chelsea manager, which centre-back would you sign?

Jeremy Jacquet set to start for Rennes vs AS Monaco

Rennes are set to face AS Monaco at 8:05 pm tonight, just a couple of hours after Chelsea‘s clash with West Ham United.

Many would anticipate that a player who could be set to leave may not play a part in the game, but the French media have an update on Jeremy Jacquet’s availability.

Guillaume Lainé says ‘according to our info, Jeremy Jacquet should indeed start in the defense of Rennes this Saturday at Monaco.’

Now, this doesn’t mean much at this stage, but it does show that he’s a big part of Rennes’ plans and they’re standing their ground.

It’s going to go right down to the wire with this one.

In an era where we spend £1bn on technical players, is the long throw too ‘cheap’ for a club like Chelsea?🤔

Jeremy Jacquet talks set to intensify

After Chelsea’s clash with West Ham, you can expect talks to intensify as the deadline approaches.

It’ll all come down to whether Chelsea actually coughs up the money required, as Rennes have already sold Mohamed Kader Meite to Al Hilal, so they aren’t desperate for money.

One clue is the fact that Mamadou Sarr is set to be recalled from Strasbourg, which raises suspicions as to whether they’re planning to go without Jacquet this month.

But only time will tell.
