"Understand" - Sky journalist shares Tottenham update on signing "underrated" forward this…

Tottenham have been given a breaking update on Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry amid reports they're after the former Arsenal forward.

Thomas Frank is in dire need of another forward option with injuries plaguing the Dane's squad, and Gnabry has emerged as a possible target.

Indeed, Tottenham have reportedly made contact with Bayern regarding the ex-Gunner, with Gnabry's deal poised to expire this summer as things stand.

Bayern insider Christian Falk confirmed the approach through his column, revealing Spurs have expressed interest whilst Gnabry simultaneously negotiates a two-year extension.

While Falk also revealed that the 30-year-old's current preference is to remain at Germany, Tottenham have signalled they remain "lying in wait" should contract discussions between Gnabry and Bayern collapse unexpectedly.

The north London club desperately need attacking reinforcements following Brennan Johnson's £35 million departure to Crystal Palace and Mohammed Kudus's injury absence until April, with James Maddison, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski also still on the treatment table.

Spurs have leapt at an opportunity.

Tottenham are simultaneously tracking Al Ittihad's Moussa Diaby, despite his talks to join Inter Milan, with reports also suggesting they're considering free agent Raheem Sterling among eight clubs monitoring the former Chelsea winger's situation.

Gnabry represents an awkward target given his Arsenal connections and notorious trolling of Spurs following his four-goal Champions League performance during Bayern's 7-2 demolition in 2019.

The Germany international posted "North London is Red" on social media afterwards, which would surely make a Tottenham move pretty awkward despite his Premier League experience and impressive 15 goal contributions this campaign.

According to Bild's reports, Gnabry is willing to accept reduced wages to remain in Munich, further diminishing Tottenham's already slim chances of securing the versatile attacker before Monday's transfer deadline.

Now, as per a fresh update from Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg this morning, all hopes have been quashed.

Tottenham given Serge Gnabry update with Bayern plan clear

Taking to X, Plettenberg reports that Spurs were never a topic for the forward, with Gnabry indeed planning to sign a new deal until 2028.

Choosing to look past his Arsenal ties, Gnabry would've been a stellar capture for Frank.

The former West Brom and Werder Bremen star has bagged a century of goals and 69 assists to boot in 310 appearances for Bayern, marking himself out as a recent legend for the Bavarians.

Able to play as a second striker and through the middle as a playmaker, Gnabry could've filled a lot of holes in Tottenham's squad, and his top-level pedigree/experience is a major asset to any dressing room.

The Champions League winner, who also boasts 57 caps for Germany, has been called an 'underrated' player by his manager Vincent Kompany as well.

That being said, even if Gnabry was open to joining Tottenham, his reported £300,000-per-week wages may have posed a major stumbling block.
