Liverpool’s season has reached a tense stage. The Reds are outside the top four and chasing momentum at a time when margins are thin.
Late defeats have hurt confidence, and the recent 3-2 loss to AFC Bournemouth only added to the pressure.
But their recent 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag in the Champions League will have lifted spirits as they host Newcastle United in the Premier League.
The schedule has offered no breathing space. Liverpool are heading into a run of crucial Premier League games, starting with Newcastle United, followed by Manchester City.
With their European commitments still active and injuries piling up, squad depth has become a serious talking point.
Defensively, options are already limited. Jeremie Frimpong is sidelined for a few weeks, while Conor Bradley is out for the rest of the season.
That has forced Liverpool to lean on younger players and reshuffle regularly.
In midfield, Liverpool have also tried to keep stability. Despite an inconsistent campaign, Curtis Jones has remained part of the rotation and is still seen internally as an important squad player.
That is why interest from abroad, especially this late in the window, was always likely to trigger a firm response from Anfield.
And that interest came from Italy.
According to Paul Joyce of The Times, Liverpool have rejected an approach from Inter Milan for Curtis Jones and will not allow him to leave before the transfer window closes.
Reports in Italy suggested Inter proposed a six-month loan deal with an option to buy worth €40 million.
Inter’s interest was linked to their midfield situation. Davide Frattesi is close to a move to Nottingham Forest, which forced Inter to look for replacements. Jones became one of the names they explored.
However, Joyce states that Liverpool “will not sanction the departure of any senior players” at this stage of the window.
The club considers their transfer business complete and has no intention of weakening the squad with the season entering a decisive phase.
The stance mirrors Liverpool’s recent position on other senior players, including Andrew Robertson.
For Liverpool, the message is simple. With injuries, pressure from rivals, and a tight league table, this is not the moment to let key squad players leave.
Curtis Jones is staying. And for Liverpool, that decision is about control, not opportunity.
