With the Dutchman, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez all out, Liverpool have looked at signing a right-back before the transfer window shuts.
We have recently seen Denzel Dumfries linked with a move, but a deal at this stage doesn’t appear close.
Alongside Dumfries, it now looks as though another right-back target won’t be arriving at Anfield this winter.
Givairo Read not signing for Liverpool in January transfer window
With Trent Alexander-Arnold on his way out, Liverpool were looking at Feyenoord’s Givairo Read early in 2025.

A deal didn’t happen, but once the 2026 January transfer window opened, interest in Read emerged again.
However, Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on the full-back, saying his current injury means Liverpool are not in the conversation right now.
He said: “Then many questions on Givairo Read the fullback from Feyenoord very talented fullback guy.
“I’m told Liverpool are not in conversation with him because of the injury.
“So Liverpool are informed on the player but he’s injured. It’s more serious situation than Denzel Dumfries longer injury and so Liverpool didn’t even inquire because of this.”
Name a Liverpool transfer window worse than January 2026…
Liverpool are yet to sign a first-team player in January and have lost out on some big targets…

Will Liverpool sign Givairo Read in the summer?
It remains to be seen what Liverpool’s right-back situation will look like later this year.
There is still time for a new addition to arrive this winter, which would likely end the need for a new signing in the summer.
But if Liverpool don’t sign anyone before Monday’s deadline, a move for the 19-year-old would make sense.
Read is the top-rated youngster in Europe outside of big five leagues at present and clearly has a bright future ahead of him.
