Romano Confirms Player Has "Passed His Medical" With Arsenal Transfer Close

Oleksandr Zinchenko’s departure from Arsenal is expected to be officially confirmed on Sunday after he “passed his medical”, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Ukrainian international will end his loan spell with Nottingham Forest and join Eredivisie side Ajax on a permanent basis for the rest of the season.

It is believed that the Gunners will receive €1.5m (£1.3m) from the sale of Zinchenko, who was signed from Manchester City for an initial £30m three and a half years ago.

The 29-year-old was already set to leave the Emirates at the end of the campaign when his contract expired, but he will now leave with immediate effect.

Zinchenko had dropped down the pecking order

The defender was the club’s third-choice left-back heading into this season. Riccardo Calafiori had arrived in the summer of 2024, but the emergence of teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly meant that game time was even harder to come by.

It was decided that Zinchenko could leave in September, and he made the switch to the City Ground, hoping for a fresh start.

However, injuries and managerial changes put pay to his hopes of playing on a regular basis. Head coach Sean Dyche had made it clear to the Ukrainian that he was not in his first-team plans.

Arsenal are in the market for another left-back

Despite being well-stocked on the left-hand side of defence, with Piero Hincapie also very capable of playing in that position, Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with a move for Real Madrid youngster Victor Valdepenas.

There were suggestions that a move for the 19-year-old could happen this month, although those claims have been played down. An offer this summer is said to be more likely. The defender reportedly has a €50m (£44m) release clause in his contract, but it is hoped that he will be available for a lot less than that figure.
