Liverpool will be without two key defenders when Newcastle United show up at Anfield tonight.
Arne Slot has revealed that Jeremie Frimpong and Joe Gomez will miss the game against Newcastle United.
Newcastle United travel to Liverpool aiming for their first win at Anfield since 1995. The last time the Magpies won there in the Premier League was a year earlier, with Rob Lee and Andy Cole scoring to clinch a 2-0 win.
A grim record against the Reds has stretched over three decades, with occasional highs swiftly crushed by almighty lows. Recent defeats have included Newcastle taking the lead in 2019, 2021 and 2022 before going on to lose.
Arne Slot provides Liverpool injury update
Newcastle can take confidence in Liverpool dealing with several injury setbacks before tonight’s game. Former Toon striker Alexander Isak remains sidelined with a broken leg but another new arrival, Frimpong, pulled up just three minutes into their Champions League win over Qarabag.
Reds boss Slot provided a thorough injury round-up ahead of the Premier League clash. He told reporters: “He (Frimpong) will definitely not be in the squad for tomorrow. He is out for a few weeks but it is not as bad as we thought, so that’s a positive from something not so positive. Curtis (Jones) is available but Joe (Gomez) won't be… but not much longer."
‘It will take a while’ - Arne Slot
When asked to give an update on Isak, Slot added: “No, he is not on the pitch yet. I think it is called a walker (the equipment he has been using).
“He is just out of his walker that so that tells you he is not expected on the pitch today or tomorrow in terms of his recovery work. So it will take a while before he is back, which we knew about."
‘We’ve moved on’ - Eddie Howe
Reflecting on the Isak saga, Eddie Howe said yesterday: “We've moved on, and Liverpool have moved on. It's irrelevant what happened then. It's about what happens now, and for us, it's about making sure that we become as strong as we can in every transfer window. So we're not looking back, we're very much looking forward.”
“Certainly not (any ill will) on our side. I think we're just preparing for a game of football. I think all of the stuff that happened in the summer is very much in the past. When you're in football, you realise you can't ever look back for too long because the game doesn't allow you to.

“It's always about tomorrow and making sure you're ready for future battles that you have on the pitch. So all our focus since the summer transfer window ended has been on trying to make sure we're strong, looking after ourselves, not worrying about any other club.”
“I think it was new for us. I don't think we've been in that situation before. I don't know because it was going on through pre-season, so I'm not necessarily sure it brought us closer together. I don't think it's that kind of moment, really.
“It was a distraction, if I'm honest, while we're trying to glue the squad together for the season and trying to impose our culture and how we want to play. It was the most talked-about thing in world football, I think, at that moment. Ideally, we wouldn't have that every summer.”
