Liverpool supporters are clinging onto hope that their club will finally enter the January transfer market in the dying days of the window.
The Reds have until 7pm on Monday evening to tie up any new arrivals and are still badly in need of defensive reinforcements.
On Friday, there appeared a possibility they would solve their right-back situation after reports that they were negotiating with Inter Milan over a loan deal for Denzel Dumfries. However, it has since been confirmed that Dumfries is unlikely to join.

In the meantime, centre-back remains a pressing issue, and Rennes youngster Jeremy Jacquet has emerged as a possible candidate to be signed.
Chelsea have been trying to sign Jacquet for £55m, but with the French club now insisting upon a summer transfer instead, journalist Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool are very much still at the table.
Liverpool in direct talks to sign Jeremy Jacquet
Jacquet is perhaps not the experienced centre-half who could immediately step in for Ibrahima Konate should he leave this summer, but he does look like an extremely talented defender regardless.
According to Romano, Liverpool certainly think so, and the transfer guru claims that talks have been initiated between the Reds and Rennes, with Chelsea also not going anywhere.

“The battle for Jeremy Jacquet remains very much ongoing at this stage,” Romano posted on X on Saturday afternoon.
“Understand Liverpool and Chelsea are both in talks with Rennes and player’s camp for the defender. Bayern unlikely.
“Jacquet would only join in July 2026, as Rennes want.”
Fabrizio Romano adds further detail to Jacquet race
Prior to his X update, Romano had also explained the Jacquet transfer saga in a little more detail on his YouTube channel.

“For Jeremy Jacquet be careful, the race is still underway. I think this story will be big. Chelsea are still there, Liverpool are still there. Bayern is looking unlikely because the player favours the Premier League.
“My understanding is it will be in the summer. Chelsea wanted the player now, but Rennes only want to sell him in the summer.
“Liverpool remain in conversations and would be open to making the deal happen for the summer. Chelsea keep insisting with the player’s agents, so let’s see what happens.”
Clearly, Liverpool supporters would prefer to get a player through the door sooner than the summer. But just as they did with Konate in 2021, the Reds look like they have identified the player they want and are prepared to wait to get him.
