The Sacramento Kings suffered a massive loss to the Boston Celtics last night with a final score of 112 to 93. Even worse, this loss dropped them back into last place in the Western Conference and the entire league, effectively erasing any gains the team made [during their four-game win streak](https://aroyalpain.com/after-four-straight-wins-kings-might-have-finally-found-this-missing-key).
Sactown fans knew from the get-go this was going to be a rough game for the Kings. Despite big changes to the Celtics' roster and Jayson Tatum being out all season, Boston has been playing unbelievable basketball. Plus, injuries were going to be a huge factor in the game.
Keegan Murray is still out. Russell Westbrook is injured. [And Domantas Sabonis sat out](https://aroyalpain.com/sabonis-likely-move-potential-destinations-surprising) due to injury management from his two months off the court. But Boston also suffered an injury loss. On top of Tatum, Jaylen Brown was also out, which was devastating. Or it should have been.
Boston still showed up to play, particularly Payton Pritchard, who dropped 29 points on the Kings on 12 of 16 shooting from the field and five of six from three. Neemias Queta delivered a solid double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds. Even without Brown, Boston overpowered the Kings.
A brutal slide continues for Sacramento
---------------------------------------
This loss was a big one for the Kings. Combined with the Pelicans' recent win, Sacramento has officially returned to the basement of the Western Conference. In fact, they now have the worst record in the league and are in 30th across the board after falling behind the Pacers.
The only consolation for Kings' fans in this loss, and it's a small one, is the fact that it could have actually been much worse. Sacramento was down by 26 points at the half and managed to cut that down to 19 points by the end of the game. For the Kings, that's basically a victory.
Any Sactown fan still hoping for a turnaround this season needs to let that go. Even if the front office pulls off all the major trades they're looking for, it's going to take time for them to find a rhythm. To be clear, not all of those trades are going to happen, not by this trade deadline.
If you haven't already, it's time to accept that this season is over for the Kings and get ready for the draft. They are 50 games into the season with a record of 12 wins and 38 losses. To make anything out of 2025-2026, Sacramento has to win the remaining 32 games, and that's not going to happen.
