In a statement to ESPN, George explained that he had taken the improper medication while seeking treatment for mental health and apologized to the Sixers organization and fans.

“Over the past few years, I’ve discussed the importance of mental health, and in the course of recently seeking treatment for an issue of my own, I made the mistake of taking an improper medication. I take full responsibility for my actions and apologize to the Sixers organization, my teammates, and the Philly fans for my poor decision-making during this process," George said.

“I am focused on using this time to make sure my mind and body are in the best condition to help the team when I return," he added.

As part of the suspension, George is reportedly set to lose $11,742,293 of his salary during the 25-game absence.

The 35-year-old forward has appeared in 27 games for the 76ers this season, averaging 16.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia currently sits sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 26-21 record.
