Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George found himself in trouble with the NBA on Saturday. The 16-year veteran, who is playing his second season with the 76ers, received a strong punishment from the league.
The NBA announced on Saturday that George was suspended 25 games without pay for violating the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program. The suspension will begin with tonight’s duel between the Sixers and the New Orleans Pelicans at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

George would return to action on March 25 in a game against the Chicago Bulls. The Sixers will have 10 regular-season games remaining at that point. George has played 27 games this season, averaging 16.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game on 30.5 minutes per outing.
Paul George issues statement after NBA suspension
In a statement to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Paul George explained what led to the violation of the anti-drug policy.
“Over the past few years, I’ve discussed the importance of mental health, and in the course of recently seeking treatment for an issue of my own, I made the mistake of taking an improper medication. I take full responsibility for my actions and apologize to the Sixers organization, my teammates and the Philly fans for my poor decision making during this process.

“I am focused on using this time to make sure that my mind and body are in the best condition to help the team when I return.”
The 76ers (26-21) rank sixth in the Eastern Conference standings. The George, Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid trio will have to wait 25 games to share the floor again.
