Bucks target Nets, Mavericks guards amid Giannis trade drama

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas and Dallas Mavericks veteran D'Angelo Russell are both on Milwaukee’s radar, contingent on other deals the Bucks are currently working on

The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly eyeing two guards amid the ongoing trade uncertainty surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo.

According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Bucks are targeting Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas and Dallas Mavericks guard D'Angelo Russell, contingent on other deals Milwaukee is currently working on.

"While trade talks surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo have garnered the league's attention, the Milwaukee Bucks have explored other smaller moves," Scotto reported.

"As previously reported three days ago, the Bucks have discussed improving around the margins by including several veteran-minimum players in various trade talks to acquire higher-paid players who would still fit under their room below the luxury tax, league sources told HoopsHype."

"The goal of those upgrades would be either to take a chance on a player with potential upside or to acquire draft capital by helping another team shed salary."

"With that in mind, Cam Thomas and D'Angelo Russell are both on Milwaukee's radar, contingent on other deals the Bucks are working on."

This season, 24-year-old Thomas is averaging 16.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in roughly 24 minutes per game. Scotto notes that Thomas has a no-trade clause and would need to approve any potential deal.

Meanwhile, Russell is averaging 10.2 points and 4.0 assists in 19.0 minutes per game and holds a $5.97 million player option for the 2026-27 season.
