The U.S. Department of Justice has released the next round of files covering disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, the central figure in a large web of sexual assault and trafficking involving underage girls in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. The release involves millions of pages, still being parsed through. As Front Office Sports reports, several prominent sports figures and team owners have been linked to Epstein. The list includes former Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen.
Allen was not mentioned as an active participant in Epstein’s affairs. He is referenced as a possible dinner party guest in an email, a visitor Epstein himself was eager to sit with. A casual encounter between Epstein and Allen is also referenced, with Allen inviting Epstein to view an unidentified “mouse/brain project” and Epstein seeking further contact information for Allen.
The text of that email reads:
Hello Lauren. Jeffrey requested I touch base with you to get the specifics of tomorrows meeting with Bill! Might you be able to pass along the details to me? Also, Jeffrey ran in to Paul Allen the other day and Paul had mentioned to Jeffrey he must go by to see his “mouse/brain project”…Jeffrey would very much like to take Paul up on this but has no contact information for him…Might you be able to provide? Jeffrey is hoping he could go after his meeting with Bill tomorrow…
No definitive or extended relationship between Allen and Epstein is established by the release at this point. It’s not unusual that the two would have encountered each other, given Allen’s wealth and Epstein’s career in finances.
Allen passed away in October, 2018 from septic shock caused by non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
This post is meant to provide, clearly and completely, the information that has been released so far. Nothing in the story at this point goes beyond the mentions presented in the quotes and links above. If more news is released, we will report it.
Due to the inflammatory nature of the topic—and out of respect for Epstein’s victims and Mr. Allen’s family—we’re going to close the comments on the post until and unless a stronger connection is established.
