Everton must complain to the FA after what happened in Chelsea 3-2 West Ham (opinion)

Everton fans had a thrilling London derby to watch on Saturday after the 1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium.

Supporters on their way back from the south coast, and those who remained on Merseyside, who watched Chelsea host West Ham would have been left entertained as the Hammers threw away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2.

There was also a melee right at the end of the match which saw Jean-Clair Todibo receive a straight red card for throttling Joao Pedro, but David Moyes will surely be asking questions when he sees what Konstantinos Mavropanos did that went unpunished.

Gary Neville disagrees with Gueye’s red card for Michael Keane slap

“How much venom was in that slap? He has been sent off for that. Was it a little slap or a whack? There is no doubt a hand comes out to the face, but it didn’t look like too much.

“They might have to send him off purely because there is a strike to the face. They were not fighting; it wasn’t a scrap. It could have been dealt with by a yellow; I don’t think it needed to be a red.”

Konstantinos Mavropanos somehow avoids red despite repeating what Idrissa Gueye did to Michael Keane

Everton fans will undoubtedly remember the clash between Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane during the 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford in November, in which the Senegal international was dismissed after just 13 minutes for slapping the England international in the face.

Tony Harrington hardly wasted any time before brandishing his red card that day, but for whatever reason – despite a lengthy VAR check – Mavropanos escaped without punishment for slapping Cole Palmer in that aforementioned brawl.

That is arguably even worse of an act than what Gueye did when you consider the West Ham No.15 raised his hand at an opponent compared to a teammate.

As a result, Moyes needs to be asking the FA what the difference between both situations is, as there is a clear lack of consistency when it comes to officiating in the Premier League right now.

It goes without saying nowadays, but refereeing in the Premier League is a joke

Not only did several experienced officials ignore Mavropanos slapping Palmer – not even brandishing a yellow – but Chris Kavanagh saw fit to book Moyes at the Amex Stadium simply for celebrating Beto’s equaliser.

The Glaswegian stepped slightly out of his technical area onto the pitch when celebrating, after the Everton No.9 snatched a point from the jaws of defeat with one of the last kicks of the game.

Instead of recognising that football is a game of emotions and Moyes ultimately did very little wrong, the jobsworth that is Kavanagh still opted to get his yellow card out.

Wow, just wow! Sum that up for us, Toffees! 🤯

Who'd have thought Beto would save the day? 🤣
