The Reds have given their midfielder a decision to make.

The landscape at Liverpool continues to be a confusing one.

On paper, Liverpool aren’t in a disastrous position, they have just qualified for the knockout rounds of the Champions League and a win this evening will put them back into the top four of the Premier League.

Such was the success of last season, it has put unusually high expectations on Arne Slot, who could never have dreamed of winning the Premier League during his first season in charge of Liverpool.

As a result, when things started to not go his way, immense pressure was put onto him, and relationships between himself, the players and the media began to get strained.

Curtis Jones has always been such an advocate for the club.

Born and raised in Liverpool, emerging through the academy and into the first-team, the natural expectation was that he’d see out his career on Merseyside.

However, in recent days, interest from Italy is causing a stir.

On Thursday it was reported that Inter Milan were in direct club to club contact to sign Curtis Jones initially on loan, but with an option to buy clause inserted into any potential deal.

Yesterday, Paul Joyce cooled the rumours, announcing that Liverpool did not intend to sanction the departure of any senior player at this stage of the transfer window.

We saw a similar situation with Andy Robertson.

The Scotland international was linked heavily with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this January, but Liverpool pulled the plug after agreeing that they wouldn’t be able to find a suitable replacement mid-season.

Fabrizio Romano has dropped a fresh insight into the Curtis Jones situation, potentially hinting at Liverpool giving the midfielder a big decision to make.

Romano said: “Inter had an agreement almost ready with Curtis Jones on the contract and with his agency. He was keen on a move.”

“Liverpool are not approving any exit of the player unless he accepts a new contract in the next few hours, but it is something that, at the moment, is not happening.”

“My feeling is that if it is not this window, in the summer something could happen around him because his contract situation must be sorted, otherwise he could really leave Liverpool in 2026.”

This is definitely a situation to keep an eye on.
