The Sunday Times has released the annual list.
Football is a lucrative sport, and several players are on eye-watering contracts.
Getting paid thousands every week is only something a small percentage of the population can dream of.
As a result, the more you earn, the more tax you pay.
The Sunday Times Tax List has been topped by the brothers behind the bookmaker Betfred for the first time, after it has been revealed they contributed more than £400million in public finances over the past year.
This year’s 100 individuals and families were found to have contributed £5.758 billion to the public finances, 15.5% more than those who appeared on the list last year.
The increased sum is largely down to a rise in corporation tax from 19% to 25%, a law that was imposed by the previous government.
Premier League stars Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah feature amongst the UK’s 100 biggest taxpayers.
Man City striker Haaland, who is said to earn around £500,000 a week, with £10m in bonuses per year, is the 72nd biggest taxpayer in the UK, paying £16.9m in tax each year.
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, who is 81st on the list, earns around £400,000 a week plus £10m a year in bonuses.
The Egyptian is reported to pay £14.5m in tax each year.
Liverpool’s star man signed a much-improved deal in April last year, after he was pivotal to Arne Slot’s record breaking first season in charge in which he won the Premier League on his first attempt.
The top 10 of the list consists of Fred and Peter Done (Betfred brothers), Alex Gerko, Chris Rokos, Stephen Rubin, Denise, John and Peter Coates, Peter Hargreaves, Tom Morris and family, Sir Tim Martin, Mike Ashley, Dame Mary and Douglas Perkins and family.
