The Serie A giants made an attempt to sign the Liverpool midfielder earlier this week.
Inter Milan, who are currently five points clear at the top of the Serie A table, have been exploring the market to find reinforcements for their title charge.
They turned their attention to Curtis Jones to secure cover for the potential exit of Davide Frattessi, who is attracting interest from Nottingham Forest.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed via his X account that Inter Milan were in direct club to club talks with Liverpool for Curits Jones over a loan deal with a 40m euro buy option clause.
Curtis Jones has been in and out of the team this season but is still seen internally as a key member of the squad.
Rising through the academy, the midfielder has spent his whole career with the Reds.
However, as with most players, a time comes when you aren’t being played enough, and a new adventure begins to appeal to you.
Curtis Jones would feel frustrated that when he has been called upon, he’s impressed, but that hasn’t always been enough for Arne Slot to make him a consistent part of the starting lineup.
Paul Joyce did dismiss these rumours yesterday, saying that Liverpool have rejected Inter Milan’s approach as they are unwilling to sanction the departure of any senior players at this stage of the transfer window.
Fans on X were quick to call out Fabrizio Romano for ‘nonsense’ news, but he has delivered an update on the situation that says otherwise.
In an X reply, he said: “It’s 100% confirmed. They asked for loan, and the player was open to move. Not LFC at this stage, so that’s it at the moment. I think even Paul Joyce confirmed that. “Nonsense”. It’s called negotiation.”
Gianluca Di Marzio had reported that Curtis Jones had approved the move, but for Fabrizio Romano to confirm that news, proves that the move was more in motion than many believed.
However, at least for this transfer window, Curtis Jones will be staying put, and that’s something Liverpool should be very happy about.
