Chelsea secured a 3-2 comeback victory over West Ham United at Stamford Bridge in Saturday’s Premier League London derby clash thanks to Enzo Fernandez’s injury-time winner.
The Hammers took an early lead in the seventh minute when Jarrod Bowen’s inswinger cross from the right side of the box bounced in the six-yard box and nestled inside the far post, beyond the diving Robert Sanchez.
At the other end, Cole Palmer’s free kick was comfortably collected by Alphonse Areola before Moises Caicedo sent his effort wide from inside the area.
In the 36th minute, Crysencio Summerville doubled the visitors’ advantage after Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cutback found him and the Dutchman finished into the bottom corner.
Liam Rosenior made three changes at the break, bringing on Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella and João Pedro to replace Benoit Badiashile, Jorrel Hato and Alejandro Garnacho as the Blues searched for a way back into the game.
Three minutes after the restart, Mateus Fernandes almost increased the deficit, but his strike from 25 yards out was palmed away by Sanchez.
Moments later, Bowen was denied by Sanchez from close range following a quick free kick.
In the 57th minute, João Pedro halved the deficit after he met Fofana’s cross at the back post with a header to pull one back for the Blues.
Minutes later, Areola was forced into a smart save after he parried away Caicedo’s strike from outside the area.
At the other end, Valentin Castellanos had his sights on goal, but he dragged his effort just wide of the far post.
In the 70th minute, Cucurella restored parity after Malo Gusto’s headed ball across came off the crossbar, and the Spanish full-back was there to head home the rebound.
Chelsea continued to push for the winner, and they got it in the second minute of additional time after João Pedro’s cutback pass found him, and the Argentine buried his effort beyond Areola.
Minutes later, Palmer almost got Chelsea’s fourth goal, but his first-time shot from Neto’s cross flew well over the bar.
Deep into stoppage time, Jean-Clair Todibo was sent off for violent conduct on João Pedro.
Chelsea moved back into the top four of the Premier League on 40 points, two points above Manchester United in fifth.
