4 Pope: Should do better for Liverpool’s second goal and dropped a clanger for their fourth late on. Will raise fresh questions about his role in the side.
5 Trippier: Too easily beaten by Wirtz for first goal.
5 Thiaw: Went from one extreme to the other. Brilliant until Liverpool’s second goal, when he stood off Ekitike. Then gave ball away for third goal. Costly errors.
5 Burn: Caught in no-man’s land for third goal, when he got drawn in and left Wirtz free to pick his spot.
7 Hall: Did a decent enough job on Mo Salah for the most part. Tried to get forward when he could.
5 Tonali: Again way short of his best in the midfield for Newcastle.
7 Willock: Played his part in the opening goal, which came in an all-action first half performance from the midfielder. Not as effective after the break.
6 Ramsey: Bright enough start but couldn't build on it and couldn't repeat his excellent showing in Paris.
6 Elanga: A few bright bursts but didn’t do enough to justify his selection and will be fortunate to keep his place at Manchester City.
7 Barnes: Hit the post with a free-kick and was involved in the goal. Went close to an equaliser before Liverpool’s third.
7 Gordon: Excellent in the first half and deserved his opening goal, which he took extremely well. Was nowhere near as effective in the second half.
