Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a victory over Newcastle United at Anfield. The Reds secured all three points thanks to a 4-1 win on home soil, as they bounced back from their defeat to Bournemouth last week.

Hugo Ekitike scored a brace in the first half as Liverpool responded to going a goal behind after Anthony Gordon put Newcastle in front.

Florian Wirtz then added a third goal for Liverpool before Ibrahima Konate rounded off the scoring in the closing minutes, in what was the defender’s first appearance since returning from compassionate leave following the death of his father.

Arne Slot’s side needed to respond after seeing Chelsea battle from two goals behind to secure a 3-2 victory at home to West Ham earlier in the day.

Manchester United, another top-four rival of Liverpool’s, are in action on Sunday against Fulham in the Premier League.
