Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz match Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard

In recent weeks, Ekitike and Wirtz’s partnership has grown and grown.

After the German provided the assist for Liverpool’s first against Newcastle, they have now linked up for six goals this season.

That is the same number Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard managed during the 2002/03 season, which is the current record for most goal combinations of two Reds players aged 23 or under.

So, with four months of the season still to play, Ekitike and Wirtz are now expected to break the record set by the former Liverpool stars.
