Luka Doncic, Lakers get troubling trade news that could negatively impact season

While the Los Angeles Lakers aren’t under as much pressure to complete a trade as a franchise like the Golden State Warriors, they would be foolish to pass up an opportunity to improve their roster.

According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Luka Doncic-led Lakers could be in trouble if they’re unable to strike a deal with one of their top trade targets.

“With less than one week until the trade deadline, De'Andre Hunter and Keon Ellis have been intertwined in trade talks between the (Cleveland) Cavs, (Sacramento) Kings, and Lakers.”

“Should the Lakers not trade for De'Andre Hunter or Keon Ellis, they could be left with little to no moves on the trade market before Thursday. “

In other words, there won’t be a ton of options the Lakers could turn to if neither Hunter nor Ellis joins the fold this season. Los Angeles is still a playoff team with their current roster, but without any adjustments, it’s difficult to envision them making significant noise in the postseason.

With Deandre Ayton struggling with his effort and consistency and the Lakers missing a wing who can not only be an effective perimeter shooter but also a disruptor on the defensive end, it isn’t preposterous to suggest that a trade of any magnitude is necessary.

Will Los Angeles make one before time runs out? Only time will tell.
