He made his major league debut in July 2019. Over his initial years with the Angels through the 2024 season, he established himself as a versatile option behind the plate and occasionally at other infield spots. In late 2024, the Angels designated him for assignment, leading to a brief stint with the Chicago Cubs before he signed a one-year contract with the Chicago White Sox ahead of 2025. Thaiss began the 2025 campaign with the White Sox, appearing in 35 games and posting a .212 average with one home run, eight RBIs, and a solid .382 on-base percentage thanks to strong walk rates. In late May 2025, Chicago traded him to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for outfield prospect Dru Baker. His overall slash line was .218/.349/.288. Thaiss dealt with a minor injury in the minors late in the year after being outrighted to Triple-A Durham in early August, spending time on the injured list before returning and electing free agency at the end of September 2025.
