Liverpool have finally made their move in the January transfer window as they target a solution to their right-back deficiencies.
The Reds were forced to play Dominik Szoboszlai out of position once again during Saturday’s win over Newcastle and have responded by targeting a move to sign Netherlands defender Lutsharel Geertruida.
Geertruida was Arne Slot’s captain at Feyenoord, but has not had the best of times since leaving De Kuip along with his former boss in 2024.

A move to RB Leipzig was followed by a loan to Sunderland last summer, and according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, he could now be on his way to Anfield.
With Monday’s 7pm deadline looming into view, Romano dropped a bombshell on Sunday morning to explain the details of Liverpool‘s move for Geertruida.
Clearly, Liverpool are in need of not only a right-back but also a central defender this January.
Interestingly, Geertruida can fill both positions expertly, while also providing a potential option in midfield as well.

This could potentially make him an ideal signing at the current juncture, and according to Romano, club-to-club talks have already transpired.
“Liverpool, in talks to sign Lutsharel Geertruida as new defender,” the transfer guru posted.
“Initial contacts took place with Sunderland as Arne Slot knows him well since Feyenoord times. LFC in club to club negotiations.”

Will Geertruida be joining on loan?
So far, there has not been any clarity on whether Geertruida will arrive on loan or on a permanent transfer this January.
Interestingly, the 25-year-old is actually on loan at Sunderland from Leipzig, so it is unclear as to whether Romano has made a potential mistake in declaring talks with the Black Cats.
Clearly, Regis Le Bris’ side will have to be involved in the decision-making in cutting Geertruida’s loan at the Stadium of Light short.
But the main negotiations will surely take place with Leipzig.
Liverpool have a good relationship with the German club, so hopefully things can run smoothly. More on this story will develop before what could be a busy transfer deadline day.
