River Plate have agreed a deal to sign Chelsea teenager Kendry Paez.
The 18 year old spent the first half of the season on loan at sister club Strasbourg in Ligue 1, but he has now been recalled from that and is preparing to fly to Buenos Aires for medical tests ahead of his proposed move to the Argentine side.
He cost Chelsea £17.2m from Independiente Del Valle when he was just 16, but stayed in his native Ecuador under FIFA rules until he turned 18, when he moved to Stamford Bridge.
However, he has never made a senior appearance for the Blues, whilst his time in France was underwhelming. Although he was nominated as Ligue 1 Young Player of the month for September after scoring his first goal for Strasbourg, first team appearances have been harder to come by for Paez since Gary O’Neill replaced Liam Rosenior as Strasbourg’s manager.
