Liverpool have now reportedly joined the race to sign a South American gem, who has a release clause worth as much as £86m.

Liverpool now tracking £86m gem

The Reds are in for a big few months on and off the pitch. On the pitch, they'll be hoping to make strides toward qualifying for the Champions League in what has been a disastrous Premier League title defence. Meanwhile, away from the action, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes need to complete their Anfield rebuild.

Liverpool's summer investment is yet to pay off, especially when it comes to the injured Alexander Isak, and that may force their hand when the summer transfer window arrives.

To that end, the Reds have been linked with a much-needed move for a central defender. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are now in talks to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in the summer.

There's no doubt that the Reds could do with beating Chelsea to the defender. As things stand, the Reds are set to lose Ibrahima Konate on a free in the summer when his contract comes to an end. That's when Jacquet could enter to solve Liverpool's problems.

He may not be the only one to arrive, however. Virgil van Dijk's current deal is coming to an end in 2027 and Liverpool must find a long-term replacement sooner rather than later.

Their focus could stay on young starts away from defenders too, given that reports have also linked them with a move for a South American gem.

According to reports in Brazil, as relayed by Sport Witness, Liverpool are now tracking Eduardo Conceicao, who has a release clause worth as much as €100m (£86m).

£86m Eduardo is one for the future

The 16-year-old has attracted plenty of potential suitors, with Arsenal already in talks to secure his signature. Whoever does secure his arrival will have to wait two years, though, given that the young winger can't complete a move until he's 18 years old.

It's then that Liverpool, Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea, Barcelona, Newcastle United and others may do battle to secure the next rising star at Palmeiras.

Arne Slot is looking to add depth to his squad

Of course, Bournemouth have just welcomed Rayan from South America, and he's unlikely to be the final youngster to arrive. English football has built up a reputation of investing in some of the most promising South American stars, before turning them into some of Europe's best.

Alexis Mac Allister is a prime example. The Argentine took the Brighton route and is now one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. Now, Eduardo could take a direct route to Anfield in what would be a big-money move.
