Liverpool have now reportedly joined the race to sign a South American gem, who has a release clause worth as much as £86m.

To that end, the Reds have been linked with a much-needed move for a central defender. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are now in talks to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in the summer.
There's no doubt that the Reds could do with beating Chelsea to the defender. As things stand, the Reds are set to lose Ibrahima Konate on a free in the summer when his contract comes to an end. That's when Jacquet could enter to solve Liverpool's problems.
He may not be the only one to arrive, however. Virgil van Dijk's current deal is coming to an end in 2027 and Liverpool must find a long-term replacement sooner rather than later.

Their focus could stay on young starts away from defenders too, given that reports have also linked them with a move for a South American gem.
According to reports in Brazil, as relayed by Sport Witness, Liverpool are now tracking Eduardo Conceicao, who has a release clause worth as much as €100m (£86m).

The 16-year-old has attracted plenty of potential suitors, with Arsenal already in talks to secure his signature. Whoever does secure his arrival will have to wait two years, though, given that the young winger can't complete a move until he's 18 years old.
It's then that Liverpool, Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea, Barcelona, Newcastle United and others may do battle to secure the next rising star at Palmeiras.
