Sergej Jakirovic says the chance to sign Lewis Koumas on loan from Liverpool was an opportunity too good to turn down, after the exciting winger joined Hull City.
City were close to signing the 20-year-old Welsh international in the summer before he joined Championship rivals Birmingham City, where he played 25 times in league and cup, before returning to Anfield earlier this month.
A Welsh international, Koumas arrived fit and ready to play, making an immediate impact by coming off the bench to score the winning goal at Blackburn Rovers.
"When Jared told me there was a possibility of taking Lewis, we immediately took him. He was my wish in the summer transfer period, but then he went to Birmingham," Jakirovic told Hull Live.
"Now it's a good possibility for us and a good option, and I think he can bring us a lot, especially because he can play all three offensive positions, both wingers and even as a striker. It's another young, ambitious player, very quick. We need this profile, and I think he will improve our group for sure."
Koumas is joined at City by Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer, though the midfielder has been struggling with a calf injury in recent weeks.

Jakirovic says Koumas arrives in form, having started the Blues' three games before their last outing against Stoke City, and scored in the win over Coventry City earlier this month. Collyer, though, is still finding his fitness.
"It's a different situation with Koumas (compared to Toby Collyer), because all the time he's in the rhythm. No matter whether he starts for Birmingham or comes from the bench, he's in the rhythm, so this is good," he continued.
The arrivals of Koumas and Collyer, joining Yu Hirakawa, Kieran Dowell and Paddy McNair, give the City boss a host of options, even with a growing injury list.
"Yes, for sure, we have a lot of options," the Croatian admitted. "This is what we wanted, and now maybe even we can finish the game even stronger, because you know my opinions, sometimes it's better who will finish the game, not who will start. Now we have a lot of options, and also no matter in which formation we will play, we have their nice profiles.
"We play Tuesday against Watford and then Bristol City, so we can rotate and we can do whatever just so that we can get a positive result."
