This season, Chelsea’s top players have probably not been as consistent as they were in the 2024/25 campaign.
Chelsea’s star man Cole Palmer has failed to find any kind of rhythm this term, though that is largely because of injury.
Marc Cucurella has also blown hot and cold, especially of late, but he was able to score a very important goal in the Blues’ 3-2 victory over West Ham United.

It was arguably his best performance in a while and a reminder of just how good of a full-back he is.

Marc Cucurella’s performance against West Ham reminiscent of 2024/25 form
Cucurella struggled against Arsenal last month and was sent off in Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to Fulham shortly before that.
The defender has upped his game significantly since then, performing exceptionally well on Saturday. Not only did Cucurella equalise for Liam Rosenior’s side, but he also managed to make some important defensive contributions.
For example, according to Sofascore, the left-back won all three tackles that he attempted. It is exactly the kind of thing you want to see in a London derby.

Jamie Redknapp was really impressed with Cucurella’s display, hailing him as “one of the best” players in his position in the world.
Without a doubt, Cucurella was one of Chelsea’s top performers last season. While his form has dipped a bit this term, against West Ham, he looked like the Cucurella Chelsea supporters saw during the 2024/25 campaign.
The 27-year-old caused Nuno Espirito Santo’s men problems in attack but was also solid at the back.

Marc Cucurella could become a target for one of Chelsea’s Premier League rivals this summer
Performances like his one on Saturday are why Cucurella is rated very highly in the game. He has admirers at one of Chelsea’s Premier League rivals and has for some time.
According to journalist Simon Phillips, Manchester City could make an approach for Cucurella in the summer.
The Citizens were interested in signing Cucurella before his move from Brighton & Hove Albion to Chelsea in 2022, so the above is not surprising to hear.
