Liverpool defender Calum Scanlon will spend the remainder of the season on loan at League One leaders Cardiff City after recovering from a year-long injury nightmare. Scanlon has agreed a move to the Bluebirds having returned to action for the Reds under-21s in January after almost 12 months out with serious hamstring damage.
The 20-year-old left-back sustained the injury in January last year when on loan at Championship side Millwall, having at the time just come back from more than three months out with a back problem.
Scanlon featured for Liverpool U21s in a friendly against Wrexham a fortnight ago, and made his competitive return on Friday with 67 minutes in the 1-0 Premier League 2 win at Brighton.
Cardiff, who are managed by Brian Barry-Murphy, are two points clear at the top of League One and are strong favourites to return to the Championship having been relegated last season.
Scanlon arrived at Liverpool from Birmingham City in February 2021 in a £550,000 deal and made his senior debut when coming off the bench in the Europa League clash against Toulouse at Anfield in October 2023.
He also appeared in the same competition as substitute at Union Saint-Gilloise two months later, and has also been on the bench in the Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup.
