Liverpool appear to have acquired their newest recruit.
Arne Slot admitted that there may be movement in the transfer market before the end of the January transfer window and he wasn’t wrong.
News broke earlier this morning that Liverpool were in contact with RB Leipzig to bring defender Lutsharel Geertruida to the club.
Currently on loan with Sunderland, complications arrived, but that season long deal is set to be cut short and Sunderland are not going to stand in Geertruida’s way.
Having worked under Arne Slot for three years, Geertruida is a player who knows the manager well and his ability to play across the backline makes this move makes sense.
Developments quickly followed the initial news and the announcement has arrived that a full agreement on personal terms has already been reached.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany said:
“Understand that Lutsharel Geertruida and Liverpool have already reached a full agreement.”
“RB Leipzig 9contract until 20290 are set to give the green light. As revealed exclusively, the search for a new right-back at LFC have been ongoing for weeks – now Geertruida is set to be the chosen one.”
“Liverpool and Sunderland are in direct contact.”
Keith Downie revealed how Sunderland feel about this potential deal happening and whilst the club won’t stand in Geertruida’s way given the scale of opportunity here, they will need to find a replacement for the defender before agreeing to the switch.
Developments are sure to follow…
