The Hungarian has been a standout performer for Liverpool this season.

Providing elite levels of creativity and endurance in midfield, he has also expertly filled in at right-back whenever needed.

His adaptability to play both positions to such a high level has quickly made him a fan favourite at the club.

Because of the level of his performances this season, it was revealed earlier this month that the midfielder is in talks to extend his contact with the club.

Dominik Szoboszlai’s current deal doesn’t run out until 2028 but there is a focus to get him on an improved deal to ward off potential interest from other clubs.

After another solid display against Newcastle United last night, the 25-year-old was asked to provide an update on the situation around his contract.

He said: “Nothing yet, to be honest. From now on it is not in my hands. It works this way. There is no progression but if the right offer comes then let’s see.”

“I am doing my job on the pitch, we will see in the future. It is always there and back and there. Let’s see what happens hopefully everyone will be happy at the end.”

“Do I like it here? Of course, of course. I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds. It is not on me. I would love to [stay]. We will see.”

Talks are set to continue but it appears that an agreement is not close at the minute.

Holding on to such a unique midfielder will be a top priority for Liverpool and with the Hungarian going from strength to strength under Arne Slot, they would be wise to hold onto him.

🇭🇺 Dominik Szoboszlai told us last night that there’s no progress on his contract talks just yet but nothing to worry about.

He said: “I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds.” 🔴
