'Crazy': Milos Kerkez claims he saw something at Anfield for the first time in Liverpool 4-1 Newcastle

Liverpool finally drew upon the power of Anfield as they came from behind to beat Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Reds have become a soft touch on their own ground this season after years of being virtually unbeatable at home.

Another defeat looked like it could be on the cards on Saturday after Anthony Gordon put Newcastle ahead 10 minutes before half-time.

But a quickfire Hugo Ekitike double flipped the game on its head and turned the crowd from being somewhat frustrated to jubilant and full of life.

After some really disappointing home games recently it was a return of the Anfield noise which has created a legend out of the stadium. Speaking after the game, Milos Kerkez admitted it was the first time he’d truly experienced Liverpoolā€˜s ground in all its glory.

Milos Kerkez finally sees Anfield eruption

When Anfield is at its best, no team in world football can live with it. But the crowd need a fast-paced, somewhat chaotic approach from their team to truly tap into that zeitgeist.

Far too often the football has been the opposite of that under Arne Slot this season. Saturday was different, though, and Kerkez was clearly delighted to see Anfield erupt.

Arne Slot must do more to harness Anfield energy

Had Ekitike’s goals not arrived when they did on Saturday, there is a possibility that the Liverpool crowd could have turned on their players.

Things have felt so bad for so long at Anfield that they simply would not have tolerated another defeat.

The football on show was poor before Ekitike’s equaliser, with Liverpool second best to everything as Newcastle dominated.

But the Frenchman sparked the crowd into life, and by the end of the night it felt like Anfield was back from a months-long absence.

Slot must now make sure he harnesses that feeling. He must keep the match-going fans on side if he is to keep his job beyond this summer. The Dutchman has seen just how much of a help they can be when the team plays with the shackles off and this must now be the blueprint moving forward.
