Manchester City have confirmed that Stefan Ortega has completed a permanent move to Nottingham Forest. Paul Taylor and Sam Lee have reported for the Athletic that Forest have signed the German goalkeeper for a transfer fee in the region of £500,000.

Stefan Ortega played a crucial role in Manchester City’s success.
After spending three and a half years at Manchester City, Stefan Ortega now has the opportunity to stake his claim to be Nottingham Forest’s number one goalkeeper. Ortega hasn’t featured for City this season as the club underwent significant change in the goalkeeping position. Gianluigi Donnarumma, James Trafford, and Marcus Bettinelli have now replaced Ederson, Ortega, and Scott Carson. In the case of Stefan Ortega, he has played a vital role in Manchester City’s success during his time at the club.
Stefan Ortega made 56 appearances for City during his spell at the club. He was a key member of the Manchester City squad that won the treble and claimed four Premier League titles in a row. Ortega was involved in two league titles, He started Manchester City’s famous FA Cup final win over Manchester United during the 22/23 season.
Ortega’s biggest moment as a City player came against Tottenham during the final stages of the 23/24 season. City held a 1-nil lead over Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and as the game entered the closing stages, Son Heung-min broke free from inside the City half with only Ortega to beat. A goal for Spurs would’ve handed the title initiative to Arsenal. Son’s shot was superbly saved by Ortega to preserve Manchester City’s lead. Erling Haaland would convert a late penalty to seal City’s 2-nil win and they would go on to claim a fourth consecutive Premier League title days later. It was a huge save by Stefan Ortega which will go down injured City history.

Stefan Ortega has now left Manchester City to sign for Nottingham Forest. Ortega deserves an opportunity to play regularly elsewhere and he leaves City after making a profound impact at the club.
